Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side delivered a standout performance on Saturday, dismantling the Sydney Roosters 60-6 in a dominant display built on relentless attack and clinical finishing.
Storm wasted no time asserting themselves, with Angus Hinchey opening the scoring in the 7th minute after charging onto the ball close to the line and powering through defenders to score. The early try gave Storm immediate momentum and set the tone for the afternoon.
Just minutes later, Hayden Watson produced one of the highlights of the match, chasing through his kick ahead before winning the race to the ball to score is first try of the afternoon as Storm continued to pile the pressure onto the Roosters.
Gaabriel Satrick added Melbourne’s third try in the 19th minute with a strong solo effort, slicing through the defensive line to extend the lead as Storm dominated possession and field position throughout the opening stages.
Melbourne continued to control the contest through the middle of the first half before Josiah Pahulu crossed late in the half to help Storm surge to a commanding 24-0 halftime advantage. The Roosters managed to respond shortly after the break, however Melbourne immediately shut down any hopes of a comeback.
Liam Williams crossed in the 47th minute after Storm spread the ball wide before Jospeh Litidamu finished off another attacking movement just minutes later to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Hayden Watson then grabbed his second try of the afternoon as Melbourne’s attack continued to find space across the field, while Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown finished strongly in the corner to further extend the lead.
Amaziah Murgha added another late try during Storm’s second-half surge before Hinchey capped off the performance, crossing for his second try of the afternoon to complete Melbourne’s exceptional 10-try display.
Josh Durkin was highly effective with the boot throughout the contest, converting nine consecutive tries in a near-perfect kicking performance before Liam Williams added the final conversion late in the match.
The 60-6 victory marks one of the most dominant performances in Storm’s NSW Cup history and provides a confidence boost as Melbourne looks to build momentum through the middle stages on the season.
They now turn their attention to Round 14 against the Knights from home as they look to keep up their momentum.
