Storm fullback Sua Fa’alogo started his Hostplus Cup season with a bang, scoring two tries for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in a narrow loss to the Townsville Blackhawks at the weekend.
Fa’alogo crossed in the 30th and 53rd minutes as part of a haul of 269 running metres in the 22-18 defeat.
The Falcons led 18-16 before the Blackhawks snared a converted try in the final five minutes.
Jayden Nikorima was also amongst the scorers for the Sunshine Coast, while Jack Howarth churned out 80 minutes in the back-row.
The Brisbane Tigers’ season had a false start with heavy rain washing out their match against Redcliffe after just four minutes. Jonah Pezet, Joe Chan, Cole Geyer and Tristan Powell were in the Tigers’ line-up.
The Queensland Rugby League is assessing options for a replay for the round one clash, with no result recorded.
This weekend, the Falcons travel to Ipswich to face the Jets on Saturday evening, while the Tigers host impressive first-round winners Wynnum-Manly on Sunday afternoon.
