Feeder club report: Round 9

Storm contracted players once again made their impact felt across the Hostplus Cup, scoring four of six tries for the Brisbane Tigers as they defeated the Norths Devils in Round 9 at Bishop Park over the weekend.

Winger George Jennings continued his impressive efforts after returning from injury, scoring a double in the Saturday afternoon match. His three tackle-breaks and two line-breaks helped lock the Tigers comfortably in the lead by the end of the first 40 minutes.

Tariq Sims also crossed in the opening minutes of the second half for the Tigers, recording a game high 197 run metres to go with a try-assist. Jordan Grant also went over in the final minutes of play, pushing through with a line-break to secure his first try of the 2023 season.

Marion Seve, Joe Chan and Storm development player Tristan Powell were also in the mix, each playing over half the match, contributing to the teams 297 post-contact metres. Seve in particular showcased a crafty performance, testing the Devil’s defence, with a try assist and two line-break assists.

After two wins on the trot, and six victories so far, the Brisbane Tigers will sit out of Round 10 with their first bye of the 2023 Hostplus Cup season.

Melbourne’s other feeder club, the Sunshine Coast Falcons, had their second and final bye of the season after missing out on the action in Round 9. Next Saturday, the Falcons will go up against the Central Queensland Capras in Rockhampton as they also look for back to back wins.
