Billy Slater has been awarded the Wally Lewis Medal for the Player of the 2018 State of Origin Series.

It was a fairy tale finish to one of the greatest representative careers in rugby league history as Slater captained Queensland to an 18-12 victory in his final game in Maroon.

Despite missing Origin I through injury, the 35-year-old worked incredibly hard to be fit for Game Two and was arguably Queensland's best.

He then led his state to a thrilling win in the final game to earn his second Wally Lewis Medal after also receiving the honour in 2010.

Wednesday night officially brought the curtain down on Slater's representative career that included 31 appearances for Queensland and 30 Tests for Australia.

He has won eight State of Origin series wins, two Four Nations tournaments and two World Cups.
