Storm Old Boys Donate Defibrillator to Current Squad

Melbourne Storm's Old Boys have continued their commitment to supporting the Club by donating a life-saving defibrillator to the NRL squad and football department.

The defibrillator, donated through Melbourne Storm's partnership with Defibrillators Australia, has been permanently installed inside the Club's locker room at AAMI Park, ensuring players, coaches and medical staff have immediate access to critical emergency equipment should it ever be required.

The donation was announced during the Club's recent Old Boys Weekend, which brought together former Storm players from across the country for a weekend centred on connection, health and wellbeing.

The annual reunion included comprehensive physical and mental health checks, reinforcing the Old Boys' commitment to supporting one another long after their playing careers have ended.

Past Players Manager and Storm Player #38 Peter Robinson said the donation reflected the lifelong connection between former and current Storm players, and the wider club.

"Melbourne Storm Old Boys have always taken great pride in looking after one another, and this was an opportunity for us to also support the current playing group," Robinson said.

“Old Boys Weekend is all about the health and wellbeing of our former players, so it felt fitting that we could leave a legacy by donating a defibrillator to the current football department.

“You hope equipment like this is never needed, but having a defibrillator readily available inside the locker room provides an extra level of safety and peace of mind for our players, coaches and medical staff.

“We're grateful to Defibrillators Australia for their ongoing partnership with Melbourne Storm and for helping make initiatives like this possible. It's another example of the Old Boys giving back to the Club that has given so much to all of us."

The Old Boys' donation to Storm’s football department further strengthens the Club’s partnership with Defibrillators Australia. A defibrillator cabinet is already installed at the Club’s offices at AAMI Park, alongside two LIFEPAK CR2 AED units, one located in the Club’s medical rooms and another that travels with the team for away games.

The latest donation builds on the Old Boys' growing focus on supporting the long-term health and wellbeing of former and current Storm players. Following heart checks at the 2025 Old Boys Weekend, they donated an ECG machine, generously provided by Pete Whitton, which is now used by the Club to support the ongoing cardiac screening of players and staff.

Beyond these initiatives, the Storm Old Boys continue to foster a strong support network that encourages former players to prioritise both their physical and mental wellbeing.

The Old Boys hopes to inspire the wider Storm community, including members, fans and supporters, to undertake regular health checks and continue meaningful conversations around mental health, ensuring looking after one another remains a lifelong commitment.
