Feeder club report: Round 12

The Brisbane Tigers have maintained their place in the top three on the Hostplus Cup ladder, while the Sunshine Coast Falcons suffered a loss at their home-ground.

In a nail-biting finish, the Tigers were leading 20-14 when a fast-finishing Capras winger went over in the corner with 30 seconds left on the clock.

A speedy line-break and try from Joe Chan in the opening minutes put the Tigers in good stead while teammate Tristan Hope scored 12 points throughout the match to take the chocolates.

With only one win and a draw from their last five appearances, the victory comes as a timely confidence booster for the feeder club.

Chan was joined by six Storm teammates on Sunday afternoon with Marion Seve and George Jennings continuing their journey back to NRL from injury, each recording 80 minutes, while Tariq Sims continued to grow his game time with a strong 65 post contact metres to go with 13 hit-ups.

The Tigers’ 2022 Best and Fairest winner Jordan Grant also continued a reliable run with an equal 13 hit-ups and 141 run metres.

Young guns Tristan Powell and Cole Geyer also carried on with their development, with 39 and 15 on-field minutes, respectively.

Over at the Falcons, it wasn’t their week as they lost 10-16 to the Mackay Cutters Saturday afternoon.

First half tries from Chris Lewis and Sua Fa’alogo weren’t enough to hold off the Cutters as they slotted in two tries in the final 10 minutes of play.

The two Storm players were also amongst the top performers of the squad with Lewis recording two line-breaks and 149 run metres, alongside Fa’alogo’s 155 metres, six tackle-breaks, a line-break and a line-break assist.

Other Melbourne boys taking the field included Jayden Nikorima with a line-break from 21 minutes of play, Young Tonumaipea with two tackle-breaks and two offloads, followed by Jack Howarth who recorded nine hit-ups for the Sunshine Coast team.
