Storm heroes coming to Marvel

The superheroes of Melbourne Storm will land at Marvel Stadium for two blockbuster home matches against last year’s grand finalists as the race for the 2023 NRL premiership continues.

In its first game at Australia’s only indoor football stadium since the 2010 season, and as a feature of its 25th anniversary season, Storm will play reigning premiers Penrith on Friday night, June 30 and 2022 NRL runners-up, the Parramatta Eels, on Friday, July 28.

Storm CEO Justin Rodski said with AAMI Park unavailable during June and July due to commitments with the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the club had considered a number of alternatives, both inside and outside Victoria for the two home matches.

“When it was clear that AAMI Park would not be available and we would have to take our home games elsewhere, a key factor for us was looking after our members and fans,” Rodski said.

“They gave us such great support over the disrupted 2020 and 2021 seasons when we had to relocate interstate and then backed up by helping us set new records in membership last year.

We have locked in the blockbuster Friday night matches against the Panthers and Eels at Marvel Stadium, two big Sydney clubs as opponents, playing under the roof. It is going to be a great experience.

Justin Rodski CEO, Melbourne Storm

“In the circumstances, to be playing here in the Melbourne metro area where the vast majority of our very passionate Storm members are based was important to the club and provides the best possible outcome for our members.

“Playing at Docklands has been a big part of Storm’s history and it’s fitting that we will play two matches at the venue in the year we celebrate our 25th anniversary.

“We’ll have very affordable ticketing packages available for the public, as well as providing free seating upgrades to all of our full season members including general admission season members.”

Storm members will be contacted with specific information on the Marvel Stadium match, including details of the pre-sale window which will allow full season members time to redeem their upgraded seat.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale on May 23 via Ticketmaster.

Melbourne played 13 matches at the then Colonial Stadium in 2001 followed by another seven matches across the 2007-10 seasons.

The last game was a 40-6 victory against the NZ Warriors in the 2010 ANZAC Day clash in front of a crowd of almost 24,000.

Grill’d will be the matchday partner for the Penrith match, with Donate Life the partner for the Eels clash.
