Melbourne Storm held off a late surge from the Penrith Panthers to claim the 2020 NRL premiership on Sunday night, in a match where both sides had equal time in possession - exactly 27 minutes and 34 seconds each.

Storm completed 31 from 39 sets and the Panthers 33 from 48, with Storm creating scoreboard pressure early and leading 22 - 0 at half time.

Christian Welch was rock solid in defence, making a team-high 42 tackles in 57 minutes of game time.

Ryan Papenhuyzen produced a scintillating 70-metre run for the first try of the second half and finished with over 200 metres, 1 line break and 1 line break assist.
