Tonumaipea played a total of six games in 2017, providing depth out on the right edge for Melbourne.

His made his first appearance on the wing in Round 4 against Wests Tigers while his remaining five games were at centre, finishing with two tries for the season.

The Victorian spent the rest of the year playing for feeder side Easts Tigers in the Queensland Cup and was on the cusp of NRL selection throughout the finals series.

Now with 36 games of first grade experience under his belt Tonumaipea will be working hard for more opportunity at the elite level next season as he looks to take the next step in his career.
