Melbourne Storm will enter talks about extending Billy Slater’s stellar career beyond this season.

Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said the Club would be thrilled to have the champion No.1 play on in 2018.

“We would love Billy to be here for another 12 months,” Ponissi told The Courier Mail.

“We’ve had some preliminary talks asking Billy about his current thoughts and at some stage we will escalate things further.

“We have enormous respect for what Billy has done for this club and for that reason we don’t want to pressure him into a decision.’’

“We’re still not sure if Billy will be here next year, but we’re hoping. I see no reason whatsoever why Billy can’t play on for another 12 months.

“The only issue for us would be if Billy decided he has had enough.”

Slater has played seven games since making his return from a near two-year absence through injury.

He has recorded six try assists, scored two tries and broken 31 tackles so far this season as he nears his best form.
