Billy Slater’s comeback is continuing to make good progress according to Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi.

The champion fullback, who has been in training with his teammates since the start of pre-season, is on the road to recovery after a season ending shoulder injury in Round 1 last year prematurely ended his 2016 season.

“He’s in great nick so the next week or so he’ll start some contact work,” told the Herald Sun.

“He’s not far away from getting into some full contact.

“We’ll do it slowly, he’s not going to go bull at a gate, but in the very near future he is going to start that.”

Craig Bellamy’s side will be in action on the field in under a month with the annual Auckland Nines pre-season tournament kicking-off at Eden Park on February 4.
