It’s an age-old rivalry between two big cities – we get to the bottom of why Melbourne really does it better than Sydney.

5. Getting around

Whether you’re on a tram, train, bus or bike, Melbourne is easy to get around. Our city is built in a perfect grid and moving from one point to the other is actually quite enjoyable.

On the other hand, Sydney’s flurry of winding roads and streets, half of which are one way, lead to never ending gridlock. You better give yourself an hour or two if you’re trying to get across town during peak hour.

4. Food and drink

Now everyone knows Melbourne has the best coffee in the world, something Sydneysiders could only wish for. But it doesn’t end there. Around every corner, behind every laneway is another hidden gem to grab a drink or taste some of the finest food this city has to offer.

Be at AAMI Park when we take on the Roosters, Saturday 23 July, 7:30pm.

3. Entertainment

While Sydneysiders spend Monday-Friday at home, wishing they were somewhere else, Melbournians are spoilt for choice. Our city provides plenty to do on every day of the week. Catch a gig, see a show, do whatever you want - there’s no shortage of good times.

2. Sport

The Melbourne Cup, Australian Open, Formula One Grand Prix, Boxing Day Test, Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Do you even want us to go on?

1. Home of the greatest rugby league team in the world

The mighty Melbourne Storm of course – what more do you need!?
