In the midst of a grueling mid-season Origin period for all clubs, forward Dale Finucane says the Storm group are not resting on their laurels.

Melbourne scored a strong 46-0 win over the Roosters on Saturday night, the third time they have shut out an opponent this season.

“That (defence) is something the Melbourne Storm is built on,” Finucane explained to the media on Monday morning.

“That’s been not just this season but a number of seasons now. It’s something Craig has really focused on.”

Be at AAMI Park when we take on the Tigers, Sunday 26 June, 4pm.

Storm will face the Dragons in Wollongong in Round 15 without Origin stars Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk who will be in camp with Queensland.

The playing group’s next challenge on Saturday night will be one they embrace says the 24-year old Storm forward.

“We’ve obviously got a tough Origin period we’re in the process of at the moment,” Finucane said.

“This is probably the toughest period of the year for us missing those guys (Origin representatives) - it wasn’t a period we went so well in last year.

“Not having those guys there is difficult but it gives the opportunity for everyone else to step up and show some of their leadership qualities.

“Our emerging leadership group has really stepped up this year, we’ve got eight guys in that group. We’ve taken on a little bit more leadership in terms of the meetings and the talk around the field. “
