Overview:

Joining Melbourne during the 2013 pre-season, Ben Roberts became an important component of the Storm line-up by the end of the season.

With injuries and Origin duty forcing Craig Bellamy to shuffle his halves combination throughout the first half of the year, Roberts settled in the number six jersey alongside Cooper Cronk when the halfback returned from injury in July.

Roberts finished the season with eight try assists, ranking third at Melbourne in the category for 2014. His dangerous ball running ability was feature of the 29-year old’s game as he combined well on the left hand side of the park with the youthful outside back pairing of Marika Koroibete and Mahe Fonua.

Roberts departs Storm after signing a two-year deal with English Super League team Castleford Tigers during the year.

2014 ‘Moment’:

Roberts’ 2014 ‘moment’ came in Melbourne’s Round 14 victory on the Gold Coast. In a memorable Storm win with Craig Bellamy fielding a young side missing four Origin representatives, the playmaker kick-started his side’s charge with an impressive solo effort. A quick left foot step through the Titans’ defensive line, followed by a dummy sent Roberts over for the game’s first try.
