Melbournians will have one million reasons to attend Storm’s final home game of the season against the Broncos, with one lucky fan to get the chance to Kick to Cure for $1million thanks to Cancer Council Victoria and Tigerair.
Storm has partnered with the Cancer Council Victoria for the game to help spread awareness of their Call to Arms campaign, which aims to reduce the impact of cancer for all men through creating awareness and raising funds – and will attempt to giveaway $1million as part of the night.
The Round 26 encounter between the traditional rivals under the lights of Friday night football on 5 September looms to be a fierce contest with both teams pushing towards Finals campaigns.
For a shot at the $1million kick at half-time, fans must purchase a ticket to the match and be in their seats by 7.20pm, members must also be seated. Five ticket holders will then be randomly selected to compete against each other for the chance to be the lucky kicker.
If the kick is successful, 10% of the $1million prize will be donated to Cancer Council Victoria to help battle cancer, with the remaining money going to the very lucky winner.
The Club has partnered with Cancer Council Victoria to assist in creating awareness and education for men on cancer health issues. One in two Victorian men will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, through the Call to Arms campaign the Club will help raise funds that will go towards helping to prevent and detect cancers, find new treatments and support those affected by cancer.
While cancer is one of the leading causes of death amongst Victorian men, around one third of all cancers can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices.
The players will wear a yellow armband in the game against the Broncos, as a mark of respect and show of support for men who are fighting or have fought cancer.
As with tradition, the Club will acknowledge the players departing Storm, including favourite son Ryan Hoffman and cult figure Sisa Waqa, at the end of the season in a tribute on the big screen at the end of the game before the players leave the field.
