King appointed NSW Blues Coach, Ponissi extends

Melbourne Storm congratulates Storm Player #69 Matt King on his appointment as NSW Blues Head Coach, taking over from Laurie Daley for the 2027 State of Origin series.

King played 91 games for Melbourne Storm between 2003 and 2007, playing a key role in the 2007 Grand Final win over Manly, crossing for a try in the 52nd minute.

The former winger/centre represented New South Wales in nine State of Origin games and made 10 Test appearances for the Australian Kangaroos. Following his playing career, which also featured stints with South Sydney and Warrington Wolves, King transitioned into coaching with the Sydney Roosters before joining the NSW Blues coaching staff in 2024.

The NSWRL has also confirmed the re-appointment of Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi as the Blues' Team Performance Manager for the 2027 State of Origin series. Ponissi has held the role since 2024 and will continue to oversee the team's performance requirements and operations.

Melbourne Storm congratulates both Matt King and Frank Ponissi on their NSW Blues appointments.
