All three of Melbourne Storm's feeder teams were in action over the weekend for Round 9 of the Queensland Cup and Round 11 of the NSW Cup.
Sunshine Coast Falcons
The Falcons went head-to-head with the Tweed Seagulls on Saturday, falling short in a close contest, 14–24.
It was a tightly fought first half, with the Falcons holding the advantage at the break, leading 14–4. However, they couldn’t maintain their momentum in the second half, as the Seagulls came out firing, scoring four unanswered tries to secure the win.
Lazarus Vaalepu and Angus Hinchey both put in solid all-round performances for the Falcons.
The team will have a bye this week before turning their attention to Round 11, where they’ll face the Mackay Cutters.
Brisbane Tigers
The Brisbane Tigers faced off against the Redcliffe Dolphins on Saturday and fell just short in a thrilling contest, going down 24–28 despite a strong performance.
The Tigers came out firing, scoring four tries in the first half and dominating the early stages to take a 20–12 lead into the break. However, the Dolphins returned in the second half with renewed energy, crossing for three tries and capitalising on their conversion opportunities, ultimately proving the difference.
Brisbane still held a narrow lead with just three minutes remaining, but the Dolphins struck late, scoring in the dying moments to snatch the win.
Kane Bradley and Keagan Russell-Smith both stood out for the Tigers, delivering impressive performances.
The Tigers will look to regroup and bounce back this weekend when they take on the Tweed Seagulls.
North Sydney Bears
The Bears took on the Dragons on Sunday and, despite a strong showing, went down 18–28.
North Sydney controlled much of the first half and headed into the break with a 12–4 lead. However, the Dragons regrouped after half-time and scoring four second-half tries to turn the game around and seal the win.
Marion Seve, Ativalu Lisati, and Bronson Garlick all delivered strong performances for the Bears, with Garlick also crossing for a try.
North Sydney will now turn their focus to this weekend’s clash with the Rabbitohs.
