Bellamy's Round 1 rundown

Catch up on all the best bits from Craig Bellamy's chat with the media ahead of Storm's opening round clash with the Penrith Panthers.

Munster Injury Update

“We don't think he’s going to play, he did a little bit earlier but hasn't done too much so unless something happens drastically overnight he won't be playing.”

"It’s just been a bit of a rollercoaster where it looks like he’s [Munster] going to improve and he does a bit of training and then it sort of gets sore again."

"It’s disappointing for us but also it's disappointing for Cameron too as he's done everything that has been asked of him.”

"We'll just see how he pulls up this afternoon but more than likely we'll play one of the other two guys.”

“We tried a couple of guys there today, we have Tyran Wishart who is our no.14, so he can play a few positions and young Jonah Pezet played in both of our trials so we’ll look at training today and make a decision from there.”

“I thought he did a pretty good job [Jonah’s performance in the the trials] as he's still only a young kid and then Tyran’s played plenty of halfback, playing a couple of games towards the end of last year.”

“We’re confident that whoever plays will get the job done and we expect them to play to their strengths.”

Joe Chan

"Joe made the point earlier in the week that he was the first ever father and son in our club, so Joey is obviously very proud of that and I'm sure Alex [Storm Player 71] is pretty excited about it as well.”

“He's had a good pre-season and shown enough that he's ready for first grade so now we'll find out tomorrow.”

Nelson Asofa-Solomona's Return

"I'm not quite sure, it's been a little bit like the Munster situation, he’s been a bit up and down so I'm not quite sure when he's going to be back as he's had a pretty restricted pre-season.”

Round 1 Record

“At the end of the day it's Round 1 and we’ve got a good record there obviously but it's more important that we go out and perform well and perform to what we're capable of doing.”

“We need to play to our strengths tomorrow night and do what we've practised during the preseason, we need to put that into practise tomorrow night.”

Papenhuyzen’s Return

"He was a bit of a late start obviously with the injury but he hasn't really missed a beat since he's come back into full-time training with the squad.”

"I think you can just see him get a little bit more confident each training session and also in those two trial games, you can see he was a lot more confident in the second trial than he was in the first one so we're really confident that he'll do a really good job for us.”

Nick Meaney’s Move to Centres

"Nick’s been great for us for two years...he's probably been our most consistent player to be quite honest, so we want to keep him in the side somewhere.”

"Last year he played basically the full year at fullback and then the year before in the halves after coming to us as a winger, so I've got no doubt he'll handle the centres.”

“We know what a complete footy player Nick is and we're really confident that he'll do a good job there.”

Sua Fa’alago

“He didn't play any of the trials, so we'd like to see him play but we're going to have to find a different role for him as while I still think fullback is his best position, there's a couple of other roles he can play for us.”

“I think he's going to go play in the HostPlus Cup so hopefully he can show some form straight away and it shouldn't be too long until he's back in the 17.”
