Brisbane Tigers dug deep when they needed to against Northern Pride at the weekend, scoring a come-from-behind 14-12 win to remain well in the hunt for the Hostplus Cup finals.
The Tigers trailed the Cairns-based team 12-0 at halftime but scored three tries in a 13-minute period midway through the second half, including two to winger Bernard Gregorius, to seize the advantage.
The win jumped the Tigers up to ninth position on 15 points, one win outside the top six, and they’ll look to go back-to-back against 14th-placed Souths-Logan Magpies at home this Sunday.
Storm back-rower Bronson Garlick led the Tigers’ tackle count with 39, while Jonah Pezet made his second Hostplus Cup appearance off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Sunshine Coast Falcons remain in second despite going down 22-20 to the CQ Capras in Rockhampton.
Storm winger Young Tonumaipea collected a double for the Falcons, including a 74th minute try in the corner that went unconverted, robbing the visitors of a draw.
A crosskick from his Melbourne teammate Cooper Johns set up Tonumeipea’s first try in the third minute.
Storm’s Jack Howarth was replaced early in the first half with a shoulder injury that may keep him sidelined for this weekend’s home game against Tweed Seagulls on Saturday.
