New Melbourne Storm prop Josh King speaks glowingly about his first pre-season, but ask the former mining electrician whether it’s tougher to work in the mines or front up to a Craig Bellamy training session, and he has a firm answer.

“A few hours out on the field, maybe one of Craig’s contact sessions, is probably worth a week’s work in the mines,” King said with a laugh on Thursday.

The former Newcastle Knights prop has quickly made a place for himself at the Storm, and he arrives at the ideal time with the club’s celebrated forward pack is in the midst of renewal after losing co-captain Dale Finucane in the off-season, and with Jesse Bromwich, Kenny Bromwich and Felise Kaufusi leaving at the end of this campaign.

King is listed to start as a prop in Sunday’s trial game against the Knights at Mars Stadium, Ballarat, and the 26-year-old is shaping as a likely opening-round selection.
