Ponissi calls for transfer system overhaul

Melbourne Storm football boss Frank Ponissi holds no ill feelings towards the Dolphins despite the NRL’s newest club poaching three experienced players from AAMI Park.

On Thursday it was announced that forward Kenny Bromwich would be joining his brother Jesse and star teammate Felise Kaufusi in Redcliffe in 2023.

Having also lost Brandon Smith to the Roosters under the same rule that allows players to sign with rival clubs 12 months before their current deals end, Ponissi said the club was growing tired of the current framework, and pointed his frustration not at the Dolphins, but at the NRL.

“You’re annoyed at the system rather than the Dolphins to be honest with you,” Ponissi said on Sportsday.
