Melbourne to cross the Tasman for pre-season trial

Melbourne Storm will head across the Tasman to play the NZ Warriors in the North Island city of Palmerston North in their first NRL pre-season trial for the 2020 season.

The encounter with the Warriors has been set for Central Energy Trust Arena on Saturday, February 22 (5.00pm kick-off) with tickets expected to go on sale in early November.

Storm against the Warriors has become a regular fixture on the NRL pre-season schedule with the clubs taking turns to play host.

This year, the two clubs met at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.

The 2020 clash will be Storm’s first appearance in Palmerston North, which has hosted two previous Warriors trials games.

Central Energy Trust Arena has a capacity of around 10,000.

“Our team at Central Energy Trust Arena is thrilled to be welcoming back the Vodafone Warriors, and hosting the Melbourne Storm franchise for the first time,” said John Lynch, venues manager at Venues and Events Palmerston North.

“This is another opportunity to showcase rugby league locally and further enhances the venue’s ability to host major, world-class events. It’s a real boost for our venue and the region alike.”

An announcement on Storm’s second pre-season match will be made in coming weeks.
