Queensland coach Kevin Walters has declared Billy Slater is in contention to return to the Origin arena.

Slater put in a scintillating performance last Friday against the Knights, less than 48 hours after watching the Maroons suffer a 28-4 defeat at the hands of NSW.

The champion fullback had two tries and two assists to put himself well and truly back in contention for an Origin recall.

With a few more NRL games under his belt before Game II on June 21, the Queensland heirachy is starting to think change could be on the cards.

“Billy had played eight games in two years but now he would have played 10, 10 is a whole lot different to eight,” Walters told Sky Sports radio.

“We’ve just seen him get better and better. His form against the Knights, well he was a standout for Storm wasn’t he?

“He is a great player, a great Queenslander. It was tough leaving him out of Game I but he is right back in the frame now for Game II. If he keeps playing like he has the other night you really can’t ignore it.”
