If Billy Slater fell just short of an Origin recall in Game I, his performance on Friday night might well have tipped him over the line.

Two tries, two assists and 163 run metres saw the champion fullback put in a performance that made all of the rugby league world sit up and take notice.

That includes those up in Queensland as those up north now debate as to who should be selected for the Maroons Game II in Sydney on June 21.

Nobody knows which way the selectors will go but what is for sure is that Slater could not do any more to earn his place back on the Origin stage.

“He is doing all the right things and you would love him to have the story of getting back to the level,” Cooper Cronk said.

“I’ve got no idea what the selectors are thinking, I don’t have a seat at the table when they meet but the one thing I can say is that Billy Slater is getting back to the form we all know he is capable of.”

“He will just concentrate on what he can do and when the team is named hopefully Billy is a part of it. The selectors have a tough job but they will make the right decision.”
