Cameron Smith says getting the opportunity to play rugby league on ANZAC Day is "always a special occasion" ahead of Saturday evening's meeting with Manly.

Visiting Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance with the Club's playing group, coaches and staff, Smith explained the honour and emotion surrounding such a special day for Australians and New Zealanders.

"It's always a special occasion getting the opportunity to play on ANZAC Day," Smith said on Monday afternoon.

"It's an honour to be able to play on such a significant day for Australians and New Zealanders. We've got a fair share of both in our squad.

"We all like to sit down and reflect on the ANZACs and what they've done for this country.

"To be given the chance to play rugby league on such a special day is extra special as well."

The Storm captain said the exercise was a very worthwhile experience and allowed those at the Club to gain a greater knowledge of such a significant day and better understand the true meaning of the ANZACs.

"We did this a few years ago and it was quite a moving day actually," Smith said.

"It's a nice time to actually go in there (the Shrine of Remembrance), have a look and see what it's all about.

"To have a bit of quite time and have a look at some of the memorabilia, photos and stories and get a real sense of what the day is about and what the ANZAC really means."

Storm will host Manly on Saturday evening at AAMI Park with kick-off from 6:15pm. The fixture will be the seventh ANZAC Day match hosted in Melbourne since 2009.
