Hughes earns New Zealand World Cup selection

Melbourne Storm vice-captain Jahrome Hughes has been selected in the New Zealand Kiwis squad for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

The 186-game Storm halfback has been named in Stacey Jones’ 23-player squad ahead of the Kiwis’ opening World Cup match against Australia on Thursday 15 October.

Hughes has represented New Zealand on 10 occasions since making his international debut against Tonga in 2019.

The 2024 Dally M Medallist featured in three games for the Kiwis at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup, including a Man of the Match performance against Ireland, with two tries and three try-assists.

Incoming Storm recruit Jamayne Isaako has also been selected in the New Zealand squad ahead of his move to Melbourne in 2027.

The Kiwis open their World Cup campaign against Australia on Thursday 15 October, before facing the Cook Islands on Sunday 25 October and Fiji Bati on Saturday 31 October.
