Chan released to join Cowboys

Melbourne Storm have confirmed the departure of forward Joe Chan who will join the North Queensland Cowboys for the 2027 season.

Chan, who was contracted through to the end of 2028, has been released from his contract early and will conclude his time in purple at the end of the season.

Storm Player #233, Chan has played 47 NRL games for Melbourne since making his debut in 2023, including 17 appearances in 2025 and 18 games this season.

The former Catalans Dragons forward and St Clair’s Comets junior became the first father-son duo to represent Melbourne Storm, following in the footsteps of his father Alex (Storm Player #71).

Chan was Storm’s 18th man for the 2025 NRL Grand Final against the Brisbane Broncos.

Director of Football Frank Ponissi thanked Chan for his contribution to the Club.

“Joey has been a valuable member of our NRL squad over the past four years and has worked hard for his opportunities. He’s a versatile player who has played his role for the team on numerous occasions.

“We’re thankful for Joey’s contribution to Storm and wish him the best with his move to Townsville next season.”
