Storm launch 2026 Indigenous Round Jersey

Melbourne Storm is proud to the launch the Club’s 2026 Indigenous Round jersey to be worn in Round 23 against Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at HBF Park in Perth.

The 2026 jersey tells the story of Storm hooker Gabriel Satrick, a proud Dhuppi Warra-Ngarrabullgan and Torres Strait Islander descendant raised on Gunggandji land in Yarrabah, known as Paradise by the Sea.

Designed and painted by local artist Edna Ambrym, with the support of Gabriel’s mother, Celestine, the artwork celebrates the coming together of the two cultures that shape Gabriel's identity.

The Torres Strait Islander Dhari represents his Torres Strait heritage and honours the seafaring spirit, resilience and wisdom of his ancestors.

Alongside it stands the Aboriginal shield, symbolising protection, strength, and the cultural guidance that continues to ground him in who he is and where he comes from.

At the heart of the story sits Jilara Oval, a place of gathering, learning and community. It represents the centre of Gabriel’s youth, where his love for rugby league grew and where he was supported and guided by those who walked beside him, especially his family, who remain his greatest strength.

The yellow footprints and flowing waterways trace Gabriel’s pathway through the Yarrabah community and throughout his rugby league journey. These pathways move through the surrounding ranges and rainforest that hold deep cultural meaning and have shaped the connection to Country, identity and belonging.

At the base of the artwork are the turtle, fish and crab, representing traditional foods gathered from sea country that nourished his family and culture. These symbols honour the cultural practices, shared meals and stories that sustain connection between people, culture and land.

Gabriel achieved his NRL debut in Round 12 2026 against the Bulldogs, with more than 50 family members travelling to Sydney to celebrate him becoming Storm Player #251.

Melbourne Storm will wear its 2026 Indigenous Round jersey against Manly at HBF Park in Perth on Saturday 8 August.
