It was a milestone moment on Sunday afternoon when Stanley Huen stepped onto the field at AAMI Park for his first-grade debut. It wasn’t just a major milestone for Huen, living out a boyhood dream but also for Melbourne Storm.
The 21-year old became the 250th player to pull on the purple jersey across the Club’s 29-year history and joins a list of some of rugby league’s most famous names.
The 250th milestone comes in the Club’s 746th game on the weekend with Huen becoming the ninth player to pull on the jersey for the first time this year.
Five of those nine debutants came from Storm’s 2025 Premiership winning Jersey Flegg outfit, with another, Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown already making his debut during the 2025 season.
Melbourne Storm Club Past Players Manager Peter Robinson explains the importance of the milestone, as well as the greater sense of belonging that comes with it.
“When you pull on that purple jersey, it’s an important time in your life,” Robinson said.
“That player number, we always place a high importance on it – that’s your connection to this club forever.”
Robinson, Storm Player #38 has been a driving force in reinforcing that connection since his retirement in 2005 and is proud to see 2026’s nine new debutants become the latest crop to be part of something bigger than themselves.
“Life is going to take you on different chapters and journeys in their life but those who have worn our jumper will always know they’ve always got a place back here at the Club,” Robinson said.
“Our slogan in the Old Boys is Mates for Life, Brothers Forever. Those 250 men who have pulled on the purple jersey – they will be connected forever.”
