Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side were defeated 38-22 by the Western Suburbs Magpies in Round 10 at AAMI Park.
The Magpies made a fast start, crossing in the opening minutes before K-CI Newton-Whare responded for Storm in the eighth minute. Eli Morris added the conversion to keep Melbourne within reach early.
The Magpies regained control through the middle stages of the first half but Storm continued to respond, with Jerry Musu crossing in the 29th minute to reduce the deficit.
The Magpies added another late try before halftime to take a 22-12 lead into the break.
Melbourne started the second half strongly, with Liam Williams crossing shortly after the restart and Eli Morris converting to narrow the margin.
Blake Kehl later added another try for Storm in the 61st minute as Melbourne attempted to stay in the contest, however the Magpies capitalised on their opportunities late to secure the 38-22 result.
Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side will now turn their attention to Round 11 where they will travel to Sydney to battle the Warriors on Sunday the 17th of May.
