NSW Cup Report: Round 8

Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side have gone down in heartbreaking fashion 22-16 to the Rabbitohs in Round 8 at Seabrook Reserve.

A try right on the full-time siren from the visitors was all that separated the two sides, with Storm starting strongly and showing plenty of promise throughout various stages of the contest.

Melbourne opened the scoring through Moses Leo in the 11th minute before Preston Conn received a room-service bounce from a Russell-Smith cross-field kick to score just three minutes later and give the hosts early momentum. The Rabbitohs responded with points of their own midway through the first half but Storm struck again just before the interval with Mitchell Jennings crossing in the 39th minute.

Coming out from the break, Eli Morris knocked over a penalty goal to extend Storm’s lead out to six-points in the 44th minute.

The Rabbitohs found a try through Thomas Fletcher in the 64th minute to set up a grandstand finish before the Rabbitohs backrower who scored again right at the death to steal victory for the visitors.

Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side will now turn their attention to next week’s clash against the Knights in Round 9 as they look to bounce back from the hard-fought loss.
