Jersey Flegg Report: Round 8

Melbourne Storm’s Jersey Flegg side produced an outstanding attacking performance to run away with a 52-24 victory over the Rabbitohs at Seabrook Reserve. 

Storm were electric with the ball from the outset, with Matthew Kereti securing a hattrick and Alize Clarke and Hayden Watson proving influential on their way to the Round 8 victory.  

The home side wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with Suli Pole crossing in the 6th minute before young half Hayden Watson cut through the Rabbitohs defence and combined with Alize Clarke for another try just three minutes later. Clarke then quickly returned the favour, racing away before finding Watson back on the inside to extend the lead in the 12th minute. 

Matthew Kereti joined in on the action with a try in the 19th minute before Alize Clarke grabbed his second of the afternoon in the 27th minute. Jordan Hamlin then crossed in the 33rd minute ensuring the hosts headed into the interval with a commanding 34-6 advantage.  

The Rabbitohs fought back with an improved performance after halftime but Storm maintained its control of the contest, Matthew Kereti completing a superb hat-trick with further tries in the 58th and 69th minute. Philip Telea also added his name to the scoresheet in the 74th minute while Talas Abell capped the performance off with a late four-pointer in the dying stages.  

Victory Isaako was also influential with the boot, completing five conversions during Storm’s first half blitz. 

Jersey Flegg will hope to keep the momentum going when they take on the Knights in Newcastle on Sunday.
