Junior Male Report: Finals Week 1 and Round 6

Melbourne Storm’s SG Ball Side and Jersey Flegg Sides were both in action over the weekend, with Flegg securing a win at home while SG Ball faced a tough finals clash.

SG Ball Cup (U19)

Storm’s SG Ball side were defeated 56-6 by the Roosters in their Week 1 Finals clash.

The Roosters had a dominant start, crossing multiple times to take a 32-0 lead going into halftime.

Melbourne continued to fight in the second half, with Jactin Samaeli crossing in the 53rd minute to score Storm’s lone try with Hayden Watson adding the conversion.

Despite the result, Storm will have another opportunity in Week 2 of the Finals, set to face the Knights at Eric Tweedale Stadium in Sydney on Saturday the 18th of April.

Jersey Flegg Cup (U21)

Storm’s Jersey Flegg side secured an exhilarating 26-24 victory over the Warriors in a tightly contested match at home.

Melbourne built a strong foundation in the first half, with Jordan Hamlin, Dylan Brettle and Tyrell Hopkins all crossing to give Storm the advantage. Eli Morris converted twice to guide Storm to a 16-4 lead going into the interval.

The Warriors responded in the second half to level the contest, but Storm held firm under pressure. Eli Morris added a try early into the second half before Jai Bowden crossed in the 67th minute to help secure the win.

Storm’s Jersey Flegg side will now turn its attention to Round 7 where they will face the Raiders at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan on Saturday the 18th of April.
