NSW Cup Report: Round 3

Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup secured a historic 20-12 victory over the Jets in their Round 3 match at home.

Storm set the tone early on, controlling possession and applying consistent pressure to deny the Jets from scoring in the opening half.

Storm opened the scoring after Hugo Peel crossed in the 18th minute after Gabriel Satrick kicked ahead for his fullback who planted the ball down in acrobatic fashion. Trent Toelau added the conversion and later slotted for a penalty goal to extend the hosts lead, allowing them to take an 8-0 advantage at half time.

The Jets responded shortly after the break to close the gap but Storm maintained its pressure with Angus Hinchey crossing in the 52nd minute.

The Jets scored another try in the second half to stay within reach of Storm but it was once again Angus Hinchey who sealed the victory at the death in the 79th minute. Trent Toelau completed a flawless kicking performance, converting all tries to guide Storm towards their win.

The 20-12 win marks a historic and significant milestone for Melbourne Storm’s NSW Cup side, the Club’s first since entering the Knock On Effect NSW Cup Competition.

The Club’s NSW Cup side will have a bye in Round 4 before taking on the Panthers at CommBank Stadium in Round 5.
