Junior Female Report: Round 7

Melbourne Storm’s U17 and U19 teams hosted the Bulldogs at Casey Fields for Round 7, with both teams facing tough opposition in a challenging match.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (U17)

Storm’s U17 side fell short against a red-hot Bulldogs side at Casey Fields on Saturday, going down 28-6 in their Round 7 match.

Melbourne worked hard to stay in the contest throughout the first half, but found themselves trailing 16-0 at the break.

The Bulldogs capitalised on their offensive efforts in the second half, extending their lead despite Melbourne’s defensive efforts.

Dandelion Luamanu crossed in the 51st minute to score Melbourne’s lone try of the day, with Ocean Kaiwai-Rangikauhata adding the conversion.

Tarsha Gale Cup (U19)

Storm’s U19 side also faced a strong Bulldogs outfit for Round 7 at Casey Fields, falling 46-14 at full time.

Melbourne found some joy with Gina Aiono crossing during the first half to put them on the board but still had plenty of work to do trailing 28-6 at halftime.

The Bulldogs continued to build on their momentum in the second half but Storm managed to finish brightly with Toefiliga Lokeni scoring in the 50th minute and Gina crossing for her second try a few moments later.

Both teams will now have a bye in Round 8 and close out the regular season in Round 9 against the Steelers in Wollongong.
