Melbourne Storm has partnered with Mounties Rugby League ahead of the 2026 season to strengthen the Club’s Pathways and development programs.
In a year in which Storm will field its inaugural reserve-grade side in the NSW Cup, the partnership will see players not selected to play in that competition given the opportunity to play competitive, senior football in the Ron Massey Cup.
The arrangement will also provide opportunities for Mounties Rugby League players to be exposed to the Melbourne Storm Pathways at various points across the season.
Mounties Club Captain Joseph Tramontana was an early beneficiary of the new set up, featuring in Storm’s NRL Trial against the Canberra Raiders in Queanbeyan two weeks ago.
Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi explained the importance of the new relationship between the two clubs.
“Mounties Rugby League has a strong reputation for developing players and fostering high standards. We see this as a valuable alignment that will support emerging talent and strengthen our pathways system for years to come,” Ponissi said.
“This partnership will support our new team in the 2026 NSW Cup competition by providing excellent opportunities for players not selected to play, with a strong club in the Ron Massey Cup.”
Alex Miller, Mounties Rugby League Football Manager said the partnership is a crucial step for providing meaningful opportunities for players, coaches, and staff.
“This partnership is about giving our players and our program the very best chance to succeed,” Miller said.
“Aligning with Melbourne Storm sets a new standard for what our pathways can offer.
“Their commitment to excellence, development and professionalism mirrors our own values, and this agreement ensures our emerging talent has a genuine and credible pathway to the highest level.”
