Junior Male Report: Round 3

Melbourne Storm’s male U17 and U19 teams travelled to Newcastle last weekend to take on the Newcastle Knights in Round 3 of junior competition.

It was a mixed weekend for Storm, with the SG Ball side securing a narrow victory, while the Harold Matthews team went down in a tough contest.

SG Ball (U19)

Storm’s U19 side faced a challenge on the road in Round 3, narrowly securing a 28–24 win over the Knights.

The first half was a tight contest, with Melbourne crossing for three tries to take a slight 16–10 lead into the break. The U19s continued their momentum in the second half and were able to hold off a challenge from the Knights to seal the win.

Lockyer-Azile Foliola was a standout, scoring two tries, while Riley Brannock was strong with the boot converting three important kicks.

Storm’s SG Ball side has made a strong start to the season and remains undefeated, sitting second on the ladder. They will look to continue their form this weekend in Round 4.

Harold Matthews (U17)

Storm’s U17 side also faced the Knights on Saturday but unfortunately went down 28–6.

It was a tough afternoon for the young group as they came up against an undefeated Knights outfit. Jeremy Lasei scored Melbourne’s lone try in the second half.

The U17s will be eager to bounce back in Round 4 as they search for their first win.

Storm’s SG Ball and Harold Matthews squads will be on the road again this weekend, travelling to Canberra on Sunday for their Round 4 clash against the Raiders.
