Melbourne Storm’s female U17 and U19 teams travelled to Newcastle last weekend to take on the Knights in Round 3. It was a tough weekend on the road for both sides, with Storm recording losses in both matches.
Lisa Fiaola Cup (U17)
Melbourne’s U17 side came up against a strong Knights outfit that remains undefeated, and despite putting up a tough fight they went down 12-46.
Storm worked hard to match Newcastle’s momentum in the first half but were unable to thwart the home side in attack, trailing at the break 20–6.
The second half saw the Knights pull away despite an early Melbourne try that briefly threatened to spark a comeback.
Oriana Ioane and Rozaliah Matavao both crossed the line for the young Storm side.

Storm’s U19s also faced a tough challenge in Newcastle, unfortunately falling 50–8 to the Knights.
Newcastle came out firing from the outset applying pressure that saw Storm trailing 26–6 at half-time.
Newcastle lifted again in the second half making it difficult for the U19s to get a foothold in the match. A Storm try shortly after the break offered some reprieve but the damage on the scoreboard was already done.
Melbourne Storm’s female U17 and U19 teams will be back on the road again this weekend, travelling to Canberra for their Round 4 clashes on Saturday against the Canberra Raiders. Following a challenging Round 3, both sides will be eager to respond with strong performances.
