Melbourne Storm’s male U17 and U19 teams traveled to Sydney last weekend to take on the St George Dragons in Round 2. The SG Ball side produced a commanding win, proving they are a force in the competition, while the Harold Matthews team suffered another narrow defeat.
SG Ball (U19)
Storm’s U19s delivered a dominant performance, securing a 44-4 victory over the Dragons.
Melbourne came out strong in the first half, scoring six tries to take a 28-4 lead into the break. The team maintained their momentum in the second half, holding off any challenge from the Dragons.
Latrelle Cordtz and Frank Howarth were standout performers, with Cordtz scoring a hat-trick and Howarth crossing the line twice.
With two wins from their opening rounds, Melbourne SG Ball will look to continue their winning form in Round 3.

Harold Matthews (U17)
Storm’s U17s also faced the Dragons and narrowly went down 10-16.
It was a tight first half, with Storm scoring all the points to lead 6-0 at the break. The Dragons came out strong after half-time, and although Melbourne responded with two tries, it wasn’t enough to claim the win.
Devyn Taru and Sione Finau both scored for Melbourne.
After two narrow losses to start the season, the U17s will be aiming for their first win in Round 3.
Both Storm’s SG Ball and Harold Matthews squads will be back on the road this weekend, travelling to Raymond Terrace for their Round 3 clashes against the Newcastle Knights.
