Melbourne Storm is pleased to confirm the signing of three new players ahead of the 2026 NRL season, with Jack Hetherington, Trent Toelau and Manaia Waitere all joining the Club with immediate effect.
Hetherington arrives in Melbourne with 96 NRL appearances to his name across stints with the Knights, Bulldogs, Warriors and Panthers. The Canberra-born forward, who can play at prop or second-row, has signed a one-year deal for 2026 and brings valuable experience and physicality to Storm’s pack.
Storm Pathways product Toelau returns to Melbourne following an impressive start to his senior career at the Panthers. The versatile playmaker represented Storm at Jersey Flegg level before moving to Penrith in 2021. Toelau rejoins Melbourne with 11 NRL games under his belt, adding depth to Storm’s halves and spine.
Waitere joins Storm on a two-year contract from the Canberra Raiders. A promising young back, comfortable at both centre and five-eighth, Waitere made his NRL debut in Round 27 this year against the Dolphins. The New Zealand-born talent enjoyed a strong 2025 season, playing 24 NSW Cup matches for the Raiders and scoring nine tries.
Storm Director of Football Frank Ponissi said the Club was delighted to welcome the trio to Melbourne.
“Jack, Trent and Manaia each bring their own strengths to our group, and we’re excited for what they can offer both in the short-term and into next season.
“Jack provides proven NRL experience, while Trent and Manaia are young players with impressive talent. We believe all three will thrive in our environment, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to our Storm family.”
All three players have linked up with Storm for pre-season training as preparation continues for 2026.
