Xavier Coates extends to 2027

Melbourne Storm is pleased to announce Xavier Coates has signed a one-year contract extension, locking him in until the end of the 2027 NRL season.

Since arriving in Melbourne in 2022, Coates has developed into a key member of Storm’s backline, known for his explosive speed, aerial dominance, and elite finishing ability.

A proud representative of the Queensland Maroons, Australian Kangaroos, and Papua New Guinea, the 24-year-old has already passed 73 appearances in the purple jersey.

After joining from the Brisbane Broncos in 2022, Coates quickly established himself as one of the NRL’s most dangerous wingers, a consistent threat on the edge and a dependable performer under the high ball.

In 2025, he’s enjoying one of his strongest seasons to date, crossing for 19 tries in 19 games.

Speaking on his decision to re-sign, Coates said he was excited to continue career in Melbourne.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time in Melbourne. The Club has helped me grow not only as a player but as a person. We’ve got a great group of players and coaches, and I want to be part of bringing more success to Storm.

“Melbourne has become home and I’m excited to be extending my stay.”

Storm Director of Football, Frank Ponissi, said the Club was thrilled to secure Coates until 2027.

“Xavier has been an outstanding addition to Storm since arriving three years ago,” Ponissi said.

“His professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to the Club make him the type of player we want in purple. He’s become an important leader in our group, and we’re excited to see what he can achieve over the next few seasons.”
