Junior Report: Round 26

Melbourne Storm U21s went down to a strong Parramatta Eels outfit on the weekend, 22-52.

Having already secured the minor premiership in Round 25, Head Coach Mark Russell took the opportunity to rest some players and give others a chance to step up.

“It was a good chance for them to play against a quality side, a top-five side. In the end, it was really valuable for their development,” Russell said.

Storm’s bench was reduced to just two players after losing three to injury within the first 20 minutes. “So, the boys did a pretty good job,” Russell added.

Suli Pole and Jerry Musu were standouts, both playing 50 minutes straight in the front row.

The U21s now turn their attention to finals. Having finished on top of the ladder, they’ll enjoy a week off before facing either the Sharks or Raiders in Week 2.

Russell emphasised the focus for the side will be on preparation. “This week will just be all about us and refining our game model.”

Melbourne’s first final will be played in Week 2 of the Jersey Flegg Final series, with time and location to be confirmed following Week 1 results.
