Melbourne Storm’s feeder teams — the Sunshine Coast Falcons, Brisbane Tigers, and North Sydney Bears — were in action over the weekend, competing in Round 21 of the Queensland Cup and Round 23 of the NSW Cup.
Sunshine Coast Falcons
The Falcons claimed a hard-fought 12-8 win over the Central Queensland Capras.
It was a tight contest from start to finish, with the sides locked 6-6 at the half-time break. The Falcons dug deep in the second half, with Nelson Asofa-Solomona scoring to help secure the victory.
Lazarus Vaalepu and Asofa-Solomona both played strong roles in the win.
The Falcons will look to continue their form this Saturday when they face the Redcliffe Dolphins.
Brisbane Tigers
The Tigers unfortunately fell just short against the Tweed Seagulls, going down 29-34 in a nail-biter.
Leading 22-16 at half-time, the Tigers battled hard through the second half. Tweed took the lead before a field goal saw Brisbane regain it, only for a late Seagulls try in the dying minutes to seal the result.
Kane Bradley, Coby Williamson, Josiah Pahulu and Keagan Russell-Smith all featured prominently, with Russell-Smith crossing for a try.
The Tigers have a bye this weekend before returning in two weeks aiming to get back to winning form.
North Sydney Bears
The Bears went down 30-32 to the Parramatta Eels in another close encounter.
North Sydney held a narrow 18-16 lead at half-time and looked to have the match won with a try in the 72nd minute. However, the Eels struck back in the 77th minute to snatch victory.
Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown, Moses Leo and Bronson Garlick all made strong contributions, with Tuimalatu-Brown scoring a second-half try.
The Bears will look to bounce back this Sunday when they face the Roosters.
