Melbourne Storm’s feeder teams - the Sunshine Coast Falcons, Brisbane Tigers, and North Sydney Bears — were in action over the weekend, competing in Round 16 of the Queensland Cup and Round 18 of the NSW Cup.
Brisbane Tigers
The Brisbane Tigers claimed a thrilling 34-30 win over Souths Logan Magpies on Sunday.
It was a tight contest throughout, with the scores locked at 18-18 at half-time. The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Magpies holding a narrow lead in the final 10 minutes. However, the Tigers surged late, scoring two tries to seal a hard-fought victory.
Coby Williamson and Keagan Russell-Smith both featured, playing key roles in the win.
The Tigers have a bye this weekend and will look to carry their momentum into the next round.
North Sydney Bears
The North Sydney Bears went down 22-36 to the Newtown Jets on Saturday.
It was a relatively close first half, with the Bears trailing 10-18 at the break. Despite a strong effort, they couldn’t claw their way back into the game, and the Jets extended their lead to secure the win.
The Bears crossed for two late tries in the final 10 minutes, but it was not enough.
Moses Leo and Gabriel Satrick both contributed strongly. Leo, playing his first game back from injury, got through the match well and crossed for a second-half try.
North Sydney will aim to bounce back this Sunday when they face the Bulldogs.
Sunshine Coast Falcons
The Falcons had a tough outing, going down 14-54 to the Mackay Cutters.
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Sunshine Coast side, who will now look to regroup during their upcoming bye. They return to action in two weeks' time against the Northern Pride.
