Statement from CEO Justin Rodski

Melbourne Storm is committed to supporting the development of rugby league for girls and women in Victoria to help us best prepare for the introduction of a NRLW team in the future.

The Club has been engaging with the NRL to determine the best timing and suitability to enter the NRLW competition and, as part of that process, has confirmed our commitment to joining the NRLW in the future.

The growth and interest from girls and women playing rugby league in Victoria gives us confidence that a Storm NRLW team can be introduced in the future, with 28% increase in female registrations alone in 2024.

But there is more work that needs to be done to support an elite pathway and NRLW team on and off the field. The club is working closely with the NRL and other relevant stakeholders to address the current lack of infrastructure and facilities for an elite women’s team in Melbourne and is continuing to invest in growing female pathways and supporting development programs in Victoria.

We look forward to making several important announcements in this area in the coming months.
