Season in Review: Young Tonumaipea

A full season back amongst the Storm squad saw Young Tonumaipea play 24 games across both the NRL and HostPlus Cup in 2023.

After two games in the centre in Rounds 1 and 2, Tonumaipea returned to feeder club the Sunshine Coast Falcons where his form across those 15 games made him hard to keep out of the Storm side, going on to make seven-straight appearances.

The local Victorian scored three tries throughout the campaign, including one in his 50th Storm game against the Raiders in Round 24.

He also showed he was a damaging ball runner, racking up 24 tackle breaks and five line breaks, causing headaches for opposition defensive lines.

The former SG Ball and NYC Storm representative hit the ground running at HostPlus Cup level, scoring four tries in his first four games before amounting four try assists and five line breaks over the rest of the season.

His 2023 season was capped off with selection in the Samoan squad for the Pacific Championships.
