Season in Review: Jahrome Hughes

Now a senior figure amongst the playing squad, Jahrome Hughes showed he isn’t a one trick pony in 2023, demonstrating his ball playing abilities, kicking game and excellent vision throughout the season.

Forming a damaging combination with Eliesa Katoa on the right hand edge, Hughes continued to cause headaches for opposition defensive lines, equalling the second highest line break involvements of anyone in the competition.

Whether it be putting it through the hands or executing a deft grubber in behind the line, the 29-year-old showed he’s exactly the type of player that makes those around him better, recording an impressive 21 try assists.

Storm fans will not be forgetting Hughes stellar performance against the Parramatta Eels in Round 22 any time soon, the halfback recording one try, four try assists, three line breaks and six tackle breaks.

Having already represented his homeland on six occasions, he was rewarded for his strong season at club level, selected in the NZ Kiwis squad for the 2023 Pacific Championships.
