Storm CEO Justin Rodski provides a club update following a big week leading up to Round 15 at AAMI Park.
There was a lot to celebrate in our game against the Sharks last Sunday.
The 54-10 scoreline was a welcome return on the field but it was the recognition of our community connections off the field that made this day a special one.
Community Round for Storm gave us the chance to say thanks to those who make our game great and to celebrate our loyal and extended Storm family.
We started the week celebrating our First Nations people with a smoking ceremony on Gosch’s Paddock.
Cultural performances and a Welcome to Country on game day set the scene for our players who were proudly wearing their 2023 Indigenous jersey, designed by Shanai Kellett, a proud artist and educator of Yorta Yorta/Juru descent.
The community festivities on the Gosch’s Paddock fan zone provided great entertainment for those arriving early, who also had the chance to watch the Storm U/21 Jersey Flegg team get another win.
The fan zone and game day activations also provided us with the chance to recognise our community partnerships with Casey Council, Coles and Deadly Choices – all wonderful partners who are helping our club to deliver some important community programs.
We also celebrated the new record number of players in our community rugby league clubs across Victoria, with players from all clubs enjoying their lap of honour around AAMI Park in front of the 20,000 strong crowd in the stands.
As our players ran on to take on the Sharks, they were greet by their parents – 70 in total – who had all enjoyed the annual Storm Parents’ weekend.
And of course, we celebrated Nick Meaney’s 100th game with a win!
It really was a great weekend to celebrate of our amazing Storm Family.
