Stats that Matter: Round 5 v Rabbitohs

Check out the key stats from Melbourne Storm's Friday night win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs!

Topping the charts

King is on the spot

For the first time in 2023, Harry Grant was knocked off the top spot for Storm's tackle count with Josh King recording 52 tackles in the Round 5 hit-out.

Putting on an impressive defensive performance against the Rabbitohs, King also went on to score his first try of the year alongside two tackle-breaks and 13 hit-ups.

Try-save triple order

Storm were on their defensive A-game denying the South Sydney team a chance over the line not only once, or twice, but three times in the second half.

Tui Kamikamica put up the first wall, lunging for Latrell Mitchell before he could make it to the try-line.

Nick Meaney was next to follow only a few minutes later becoming an unstoppable force on the left corner that the Bunnies could not penetrate.

Meaney saves the try

Harry Grant was the final piece of the puzzle, taking a dive on Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson as he lept for a try in the right corner with the hooker steering him outside the field of play.

Returning with a bang

Returning to the field in 2023 from injury, Reimis Smith made his presence felt in the line-up.

The 25-year-old clocked in in 56 post-contact metres and two tackle-breaks the Friday night match-up, helping to keep his team ahead of the opposition.

Booted it

From bombs to try-assisting chips, the Melbourne side topped their 2023 kick-metre tally, with the Steeden recording 855 metres in the air for the men in purple.
