Women of Storm has a strong new advocate – former Federal MP and best-selling author Julia Banks who will be the keynote speaker at tomorrow’s Summer on the Lake event at Albert Park.
Melbourne Storm launched its Women of Storm program last year, providing a new platform to celebrate and empower both women and men to drive positive change, inclusiveness and equality.
It’s a program which resonates closely with Julia who is an established thought leader on leadership, focussing on creating safe and respectful cultures in workplaces, schools, sports and other organisations.
Her best-selling book Power Play, Breaking through bias barriers and boys’ clubs was a nominee in last year’s Australian Book Industry Awards.

“I’m really excited to be part of Women of Storm and sharing my thoughts and experiences at Summer on the Lake,” Julia said.
An initiative like this one is leading the way in terms of improving gender equity.

“I really love that Women of Storm has a dual focus. It’s celebrating the contributions that women have made to the success of Melbourne Storm and Sunshine Coast Lightning and it’s also providing a platform and voice for women and men to continue to improve on gender equity.
“Creating inclusive workplaces, safe workplaces for all, can only be good for workplace culture.”
Julia said the topics she would cover in her keynote speech on Friday were “totally a passion of mine”.

“We spend a lot of our time at work and we can all contribute to making our workplaces enjoyable and welcoming places to be.
“Healthy, inclusive workplaces where people intend to do good and intend to improve achieve the best results.
“You can’t go far wrong when you have a workplace based on trust and respect.”
Summer on the Lake will be held at the beautiful Carousel at Albert Park.
Guests will enjoy an afternoon of networking and hear from Julia as well as a panel discussion that includes Storm Group director Gerry Ryan OAM, Equidi founder Natalie Flynn and North Melbourne Kangaroos CEO Jennifer Watt.
